Stark Varg

Stark Varg Best Electric Dirt Bike 2024

This is a full-size dirt bike, which is a huge deal for us. Previously, we rode the Free Ride, which felt more like a hybrid between a trial bike and a full-size dirt bike. The Stark Varg, on the other hand, is a full-fledged dirt bike that feels incredibly powerful and remarkably similar to a mountain bike because it’s so quiet. The first thing we noticed was the sheer power of this bike—it’s far beyond any dirt bike we’ve ridden before.

What We Love

We love the level of control this bike offers. It’s easy to ride slowly and precisely, which is great for technical trails. The power delivery is incredibly smooth, allowing you to adjust it according to the terrain and your comfort level. The bike also features a comprehensive app that lets you see ride data, change settings, and even track your rides. This level of customization and control is something we haven’t seen in other dirt bikes, making it a contender for the Best Electric Dirt Bikes for 2024.

What We Hate

There are a few things we don’t love about the Stark Varg. The charging setup is cumbersome, requiring multiple adapters and the kickstand is frustrating because it auto-kicks back up. The bike is also quite heavy, which can be a drawback, especially for longer rides. Another annoyance is the requirement to use a dedicated Android phone for the app, which doesn’t offer the same user experience as our personal devices.

Pros and cons

ProsCons
High Power: 80 horsepowerRequires multiple adapters and a generator for charging in remote locations
Full-Size DesignAuto-kicks back up and leans the bike too far
Quiet OperationWeighs 267 lbs, which can be noticeable and challenging for longer rides
Adjustable Power SettingsThe app requires a specific Android phone, limiting user experience for those with different devices
Controlled Power DeliveryNo clutch can lead to difficulty in controlling power, especially in technical situations like pivot turns
Superior HandlingSuspension feels harsh at times due to the bike’s weight
Advanced App Integration
Versatile Performance

2024 Zero FXE

2024 Zero FXE

The power delivery is smooth and there’s no hesitation. The bike is incredibly refined, with a comfortable seat and well-tuned suspension. The dash is phenomenal, providing all the necessary information. The bike also comes with app connectivity, allowing you to tweak various settings to suit your riding style.

The Zero FXE is a fun, light, and nimble bike that could save you money in the long run, especially if you live in a city. However, its high price and limited range make it less ideal for highway riding or longer trips. It’s a great option for city dwellers or those with friends willing to let them charge their bikes.

What We Love

There are several aspects of the Zero FXE that we love. Firstly, the refinement of this bike is outstanding. The programming is polished, resulting in a ride that is smooth and not jerky, even at high speeds. Secondly, the comfort is top-notch. The seat is the most comfortable stock seat I’ve ever experienced on a Supermoto, and the suspension is very well-dialed, providing a pleasant riding experience over various terrains. Lastly, the dashboard and connectivity stand out. The dash is highly visible and informative, showing all necessary information at a glance. Additionally, the bike’s app connectivity allows you to easily tweak the motor’s punch, regenerative braking, and other settings to suit your riding style, which adds a layer of personalization and control that enhances the overall experience.

What We Hate

Despite its many advantages, there are a few things we don’t love about the Zero FXE. The most significant downside is the price. With an MSRP of $12,500 in the US and an even steeper $24,500 in Australia, the bike is quite expensive. The Zero FXE has an estimated city range of 105 miles (168 km), but this range decreases significantly on highways due to fewer opportunities for regenerative braking. These limitations make the bike less ideal for highway riding or longer trips, restricting its practicality for some riders.

Pros and cons

ProsCons
The bike’s programming is polished, making for a smooth ride without any jerks, even at high speeds. The bike is quite expensive. For that price, there are many other competitive options available, such as the KTM 990 Duke or Yamaha T7, which offer more for less.
The seat is the most comfortable stock seat I’ve ever experienced on a Supermoto, and the suspension is well-dialed.The bike has an estimated city range of 105 miles (168 km), but this range decreases significantly on highways due to less regenerative braking.
The dashboard is highly visible and informative, and the bike’s app connectivity allows for easy adjustments to the motor’s punch, regenerative braking, and other settings.

  • Power Delivery Issues: The bike struggles with power delivery at slow speeds, especially on steep inclines or rocky terrain.
  • Brake Sensors: The brake sensors tend to reactivate even after being overridden, causing delays and impacting the riding experience.
  • Swingarm Flex: The swingarm flexes visibly, which could be a concern for some riders, although it helps with traction.
  • Short Rocket Mode: The Rocket mode, although powerful, lasts only 10 seconds, limiting its usefulness.
